Juan Pablo Aschner Rosselli is an architect and academic with a Master’s degree in Architecture (laureate thesis), and a PhD in Art and Architecture. He developed the Faculty of Creative Studies at Universidad del Rosario, and joined as its founding Dean and full-time professor in 2020. Prior to this, he served as the Director of the DEARQ Journal from 2013 to 2019 and as an Associate Professor at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and the Universidad de los Andes. He is also the Co-Director and Co-Author of the award-winning film “Euritmia,” the author/co-author of ten books, and numerous published articles and book chapters.
Juan Pablo’s research and creative work focuses on the integration of textual, graphic, visual, and sound media and the incorporation of methodological and thematic resources used in social sciences, humanities, arts, and especially music, literature, and film. His recent research topics include the monographic study of the work of modern and contemporary Colombian and Latin American architects; the study of the processes of experience and composition of music, film, and architecture in interaction; the theories and experimentations with form in art and architecture; the role of architecture in peace and reconciliation processes; Narco-architecture in Colombia and Mexico; and the symbolic relationships between architecture, politics, and power. Juan Pablo has experience in participatory design and architectural design, having worked on projects, master plans, and built structures at different scales and for various uses. He has received numerous recognitions for his work, including the 1st prize at the XXVI Colombian Architecture Biennial 2018 and an International Honorable Mention at the XXI Pan-American Architecture Biennial of Quito 2018 for the DEARQ. He also received the IDARTES 2018 Creation Grant with his music and creation collective: La Paralela, and a research grant from CESED (Center for Studies on Security and Drugs). His film Euritmia has won two first prizes and a second prize at international film and architecture festivals in Turkey, France, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Additionally, Juan Pablo received a full scholarship for academic excellence (National University). The published works in which he participated as a co-author or member of research groups have received an award in the History, Theory, and Criticism category at the Colombian Architecture Biennial, 2010, have been selected at the Ibero-American Architecture Biennial of 2012 and 2022, and have received three honorable mention awards at the Colombian Architecture Biennials of 2008, 2012, and 2014. |
