Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Applied Sciences is a long-established, nationally and internationally renowned institution that offers a wide range of design degree programs. The university invites applications for the following professorship for the summer semester 2024:
Professorship of Product Design with a focus on sustainability (W2)
The tasks of the professorship include
Teaching design skills in product and process design with a special focus on current knowledge, concepts and methods of sustainable design in analog and digital contexts.
Practice-oriented design projects as the focus of teaching activities. It is expected that these projects are often also planned and carried out in cooperation with industrial companies, service providers or other institutions.
Holistic view of sustainability with strategies of efficiency, consistency and sufficiency of products, product-service-systems and new forms of consumption.
Further development of the field, especially with regard to connection possibilities to other fields represented in product development and cross-curricular courses.
Qualification Profile
Practical experience in working with analog and digital design contexts and objects
Expertise in the broader field of sustainability (see “Tasks”)
Adeptness in quantitative and qualitative methods for assessing sustainability factors
Knowledge of relevant legal and policy frameworks, agreements, standards, and certifications
Ability to critically reflect on current discourses on the future development of the addressed topics
Experience in interdisciplinary cooperation
You will provide coursework and project supervision with a focus on the Product Design program as well as the other BA and MA programs.
You are expected to perform the usual tasks in university self-administration as well as to participate in the further development of the university and the implementation of applied research and transfer projects as well as in the new construction of laboratories, workshops and other infrastructure related to teaching content.
The hiring requirements are based on Section 47 (1) of the Baden-Württemberg State Higher Education Act. Proof of a completed university degree, excellent subject-related performance and pedagogical aptitude as well as at least five years of successful professional practice, of which at least three years must be outside the university sector. Sufficient knowledge of German and English to conduct courses is expected.
As a rule, the position is a probationary civil servant. The prospect of subsequent employment as a civil servant for life is held out. The university aims to increase the proportion of women in teaching and research and therefore expressly invites qualified women to apply.
